Whether you work in a school system or for a non-profit organization, you will learn how to better support individuals with special needs prepare for post-secondary education, employment, and independent living. This certificate is designed to meet the standards, guidelines, and competency requirements established by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for Transition Specialist Endorsement and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). Students who do not seek endorsement will receive a certificate of program completion issued by Curry College.
What You’ll Learn:
Receive training and support as a Transition Specialist and help students with special needs prepare for post-secondary education, employment, and independent living. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts urges school districts to address the complex academic, communication, social, and behavioral needs of students with disabilities, including the transition process.
How You’ll Learn:
Learn together with your cohort in a fully virtual program with synchronous live classes. Complete your field-based experience where you work, or expand your network at one of our partner sites.
Career Outcomes:
Be a Transition Specialist supporting students in your school, district, or within a wide variety of special education settings. Earning this endorsement opens doors to new career opportunities and helps students with disabilities become successful adults in our communities. This program is designed to meet the standards, guidelines and competency requirements established by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for Transition Specialist Endorsement and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).

Admission Requirements:
If you do not have a teaching license, you can still enroll in this certificate program. Students must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited institution. For DESE Endorsement Track, a minimum of two years experience under one of the following initial or professional licenses is required: Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (PreK-8 or 5-12), Teacher of Students with Severe Disabilities, Teacher of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing, Teaching of the Visually Impaired, School Guidance Counselor, School Social Worker/School Adjustment Counselor, Rehabilitation Counselor.
